But I'm not about to tell her that she can use her keyboard 4 -5 hours after boot up. I did notice that if I leave the laptop on long enough (3-5 hours) the laptop keyboard will finally work. I've been using a spare USB keyboard for desktops to use the keyboard. I've uninstalled the HID keyboard in hopes to re-install it in device manager, and it just reappeared. I went through Device Manager, and it doesn't recognize that anything is wrong. I thought to myself oh crap, maybe I can do a system restore and, that still didn't really fix my problem, it just technically removed Malwarebytes but still had the folder in, my programs. but as soon as Windows boots up, it doesn't work. But after some force shut downs I noticed the keyboard works in BIOS settings, like to select Safe Mode or to Run Windows normally. After the "quarantine" I decided to restart the laptop and I noticed the keyboard on the laptop wouldn't work. It found a quite a few items and quite a few registry problems. After receiving it, I removed some obvious adware and ran Malwarebytes. Using the On-Screen keyboard, CTRL & DEL work when pressed on the physical keyboard but ALT does not.So my Sister in-law had some virus problems and took her laptop to me. It sounds like one of the 3 keys just aren't working and this is a quick & easy test. Then in the username box, attempt to use the delete key to remove a typed character (place the cursor in front of the character you are removing).
DELETE won't light up, so to test that key, you have to use the On-Screen Keyboard to unlock the screen. Test CTRL and ALT to make sure they are registering. As you hold it down, you should notice the key lighting up on the On-Screen Keyboard. Goombawaho: Is there any feature in the BIOS where the CNTRL key is changed and requires the FN (function key) to be pressed or the option to "Swap FN with CTRL key" or something like that? Did you try both? When you are in Windows, did you confirm that the CTRL, ALT and Delete keys work individually? Do the Caps lock / Num lock lights toggle on and off at the login screen?
